This workshop discusses different takes on autistic experience within the psychoanalytic tradition and focuses in particular on the relation between the skin and the self. How is the sense of the skin and the felt surfaces of the self altered in autism? And how do such alterations affect more well-known autistic features, including differences in perceptual, intersubjective, and linguistic experience? Addressing such questions through the works of thinkers including Klein, Bion, Lacan, Tustin, and Ogden, the workshop aims to provide a diversity of psychoanalytic perspectives on autism focusing on the centrality of tactile experience and the sensations of the skin.
